If you've seen the Itals, Everton Blender, Foundation, The Ethiopian, or Winton Jarrett, performing in the past two years you may have seen Andrew performing with the Solid Foundation band on drums. On Diamond Life you'll get to hear him as a drummer as well as a songwriter and vocalist. Andrew grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. He started listening to reggae while in the seventh grade when he stumbled across a college radio broadcast hosted by the General from Stanford University's KZSU. It wasn't long before he was tuning into the General and Spliff Skankin's broadcasts from KFJC as a regular listener. Andrew had already been playing drums for 12 years in local reggae and African bands when he graduated from school and was quickly recruited by San Diego reggae rockers, The Cardiff Reefers to tour and record. He toured with the Reefers for two years before deciding to leave and study studio engineering full-time. He was lured back into performing when the Itals needed a drummer for a short tour. After touring with the Itals Andrew started to travel back and forth from California to Jamaica to work on recording projects. In 2000 Andrew brought one of his heroes, Winston Jarrett, from Kingston to California to perform at the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival and to do a short West Coast tour. The Solid Foundation Band was formed to back Winston on that tour and since their formation the Solid Foundation Band has gone on to back, Everton Blender, Foundation, and the Ethiopian. |
